His Mother

Wesley Girls’ High School. Cape Coast.
She tossed and turned
and gnashed her teeth,
Eyes tightly shut,
she cried in pain;
Face bathed in sweat
and torrents of tears,
She cried, she screamed;
she cursed and prayed
“Some more, some more”,
she heard them say;
“O God”, she cried “
some strength my way.
That I would survive this day!”
She tugged and pulled,
grazed flesh and dirt;
And pushed and pushed,
all worn and wet;
Then came the cry that
hailed her great, that
crowned her pain with
sweetest fruit;
She heard and dropped
her head to rest,
She lay still, she lay silent;
eyes open, beautiful and
bright with tears;
Face bathed in sweat
and torrents of tears,
She smiled, she knew it;
she had done it this time,
“He is beautiful, o so beautiful”,
she heard them say
“O God”, she sighed and
felt him near
“O God”, she said,
“this time he stays”;
She kissed and he cried,
She hugged and he cried,
She breathed her last and
they parted ways.
